I am having the same problem.
I just got a refurb MBP 17" direct from Apple last week and and I have all the current updates and patches available. I believe there was even a keyboard firmware update in there. I've noticed that my keyboard has frozen a few times. It did it twice today. The second time I was booted into WinXP and the keyboard and touchpad were unresponsive. My logitech VX Nano mouse was plugged in at the time and was still working. I restarted the computer and logged into Leopard. The keyboard and mouse were still completely frozen and unresponsive.
I shut down the macbook pro completely and powered it on, holding the power button down until the sleep light flashed on the front. Then a long tone was heard and when it booted the keyboard and touchpad worked again.
I have only noticed the problem since applying the recent updates and the purchase of my mouse which both occurred just a couple days ago so I don't know which event to attribute the issue. I had to reset it like this three times since getting my USB mouse. Could it be causing the problem?
